Buchanan is a freaky athlete with a P5 caliber frame. What stands out is the 2023 recruit plays with energy, and that will be key to his progression. No doubt, Buchanan will have to add some serious weight, and he doesn’t get great leverage or power at the point of attack. He does move pretty well side to side. Does a solid job of squaring up his tackles and drives the ball carrier backwards. Solid leg drive, just not enough strength. The upside is just too big here for the 2023 DL. How big can he get, it’s easy to see him getting to around 260-270. He needs to become more physical, but even his lack of strength is compensated by his great length, and Buchanan is able to scrape off blocks and use his quickness to get around blocks. I want to see him develop more pass-rush moves. The athletic upside is legit though, and should attract P5 programs.
