Smith is an edge defender that the LaGrange staff seems to be pretty high on. He has good naturally quick first-step and does get into the backfield pretty quickly. They even line him up at DT at some points, where his quickness is just too much for a lot of HS linemen. He’s definitely a springy athlete, and his natural upside is solid, but he definitely has some work to do with his weight lifting numbers. Smith needs to work moving laterally and keeping his pads parallel to the LOS when stringing a play out. Ideally we would like to see him playing out in the flat even more, which he does at times. He has some the quickness to get around perimeter blocks and is good at stopping screen passes. Needs to really commit in the weight room and think he will have even more impressive film his senior year.
