Johnson is an active edge defender who would be a good fit in a 3-4 defense. He has pretty good hands at the point of attack getting pretty good leverage too. Does a nice job of being disruptive, and while engaged he keeps a pretty good back arch. Johnson can really jump the snap well, and several times on film he is too quick for the offensive linemen to react. The senior is a pretty good tackler, but there is a lot of arm tackles for our taste at the same time. He was extremely productive his senior year bouncing between defensive tackle and end – even standing up at times. Considering his agility though that makes sense. Pursues the football pretty well and that led to a lot of tackles this year for a player bouncing between his positions. Definitely like to see him making tackles down field too – solid hustle all around. Very good improvements in the weight room the last few years too – Johnson should be around 280’s when in college and thrive in a 3-4 DE role.
