Hughes projects as a SAM or DE at the next level. He’s got a large frame and can matchup over a lineman and plenty strong enough to set the edge. He played both TE and LB senior year. He made several explosive plays on offense but will be a defender at the next level. Hughes is a big hitter, but would like to see him drive his leg more when he is making an attempt. The senior has immense upper body strength and can quickly get off blocks. He has really good size and the potential to gain another 10-20. He might just outgrow the OLB position and become a DE at the next level. Overall we like his athleticism and showcases solid speed out in space. He made a lot of pass breakups at the line of scrimmage, so his length absolutely makes an impact.
