Colby Smith is deceptively quick, and when he gets into the open field his ability to break a defenders ankle is exciting. He sets the defender up well doing a great job selling one direction then making a hard cut the other way. Smith is a pretty good dual threat QB, he shows a plenty strong arm tossing the ball out to he side line, and has some decent zip when making a throw on the run. Smith is also an All-Region safety, and at the next level his athletic ability is best suited as a defensive back. His change of direction is definitely a talent, and if he can improve his acceleration to the ball carrier than I think he displays the quickness to play CB. Considering everything he does for his team playing FS and QB; it’s clear that Smith one of the best athletes at his HS. He also plays basketball and baseball too, and that coordination is on equal display when he centers under a deep pass and high points the ball in the back of the end zone for an interception.
