Mathis continues to fill out his frame and up to 245 now, which is about 15 lbs. higher than last year. The extremely athletic edge defender always shown a ton of upside considering his quickness of the ball and general size. Mathis has FBS size. He is pretty aggressive getting off the blocks and closes quickly. Mathis has excellent length and breaks up several tackles at the LOS. Hard to find a player with his combo of size and quickness. Mathis is probably one of the biggest sleepers in the class of 2022. He is really just beginning to scratch at the surface of his potential, but with solid weight lifting improvements across the board, we can see Mathis really growing into a big time player at the next level. He uses his length well to get off blocks, but definitely needs more work with shedding his blocks and getting quicker with his hands. Needs to increase his production senior year to really solidify him as a FBS recruit, but the upside is legit. Mathis should easily get to be around 270-280 with out losing much of his quickness.
