Garrett is definitely getting stronger this offseason. He was a backup last year on the state runner-ups, but figures to get more action his senior year. I like how he makes well timed cutbacks, and does it against the pursuit, so doesn’t appear to have much fear of the backside pursuit. He has pretty good quickness and explodes out his cuts. Top end speed needs to improve. For a smaller back, that really needs to happen. Garrett needs to shoot for around 170 by this fall. He’s a fairly tough runner too. Biggest area he needs to improve though is getting more first team varsity reps. He’s a smart runner for sure, and does stay low driving through the tackle, but just needs to get stronger. He does have good body composition, and strong explosive hips, so he should really continue to fill out for sure. He will have all the opportunities to get more reps this fall, and that’s where he will make his mark as a legit college recruit.
